Note |
The University of Utah has made former and current yearbooks from various campus entities available in print and via its digital library archive. These documents contain facts and milestones about the history of the University of Utah. In some cases, these publications contain insensitive and offensive language and imagery that does not represent the views or values of the University of Utah. Insensitive and offensive portrayals of race and gender were wrong at the time these publications were originally printed, and they are wrong today. The yearbooks are presented as they were originally created and have not been edited or censored-to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices and biases never existed. - July 2019 |

Show BASKETBALL CAPTAINS Morale on a team will carry it to victory even though it may lack somewhat in actual team strength. The morale on the 1932 varsity hoop team made up for a lot of deficiencies, and in the opinion of many, morale it was that carried the Utes to the division finals after fate had taken its toll in the way of injuries. Captain Sherman Clark had much to do with the close harmony that made the Redmen work as a unit rather than as individual performers. Hampered himself by a slow start owing to football, Clark fought hard to get into shape. His improvement in play reflected in the play of every other man, so that the Utes' success hinged very much on him. As a leader Clark was an aggressive, exemplary captain, a fighter through and through. Tricky Dick Lund was the team's unanimous choice to succeed Clark. Two years' service as a substitute guard gave him a good background of experience from which to climb into the vortex of the loop's star watchman in the 1932 pennant race. Lund is one of the most universally liked men ever to don the Crimson flannels, and players and coaches predict for him his biggest year next winter when he leads the Peterson entry into the violent scramble for Western Division honors. Dick is a junior student. Page Two Hundred Nine |
