Major Blaine, the victim, received his death at the hands of two ruffians whom he had home as guests and at the opportune time murdered him in a manner that appeared to be suicid The killing was investigated by the village policeman and his son, who was a sleuth of Scotland Yard, and the case was pronounced one of self-destruction.
