Philippe I, eux deux fils, Charles V. & Ferdinand L qui ont éré tous deux Empereurs, & qui ont formé les deux branches de la Maifon d'Autriche : l'une en Efpagne, qui eft la branche aînée, dont on ne voit pas icy la fuite : l'autre en Allemagne, qui cft la branche cadette, & celle à laquelle l'Auteur fe borne. Ferdinand devint chef de cette branche , parce que Charles V. fon frère aîné lui abandonna volontairement^ l'Empire , & tout ce que fa Famille y pofledok. Cela le rendit maître des Royaumes de Hongrie & de Bohême. Il époufa Anne de Hongrie, qui lui donna quinze enfans, parmi lefquels il n'y eut que quatre garçons ; fçavoir Maxirnilicn IL Ferdinand, Jean & Charles. Maximilien IL élu Roy des Romains en i<$6z. & Empereur en 15É4. mourut en 157^ II laifla cinq fils, Rodolphe, Erneft, Matthias, Maximilien & Albert. Matthias & Albert n'eurent point d'enfans de leur mariage ; les autres ne fe marièrent pas. La poftente fe continua par Charles II. dernier des enfans de Ferdinand.
