C'eft bien plus qïrttorace n'en demandoit aux Poètes pour rendre leurs Vers dignes des yeux eu Public. M. Marckius rejette d'abord l'opinion de quelques Anciens q'ui ont pris dans un fais fpi-rituel & allégorique ce que Moyfe raconte du Paradis Terreftre. Il cite comme Auteurs de cette opinion Philon Juif, Origene, & faint Ambroife , auquel il attribue le même fenti-ment, contre l'avis de Sixte de Sienne & de Bellairnin. II foutient enfuite k fens littéral des paroles de Moyfe, par des rayons tirées du devoir de THiftorien, & de la fimplicité qui paroîc dans toute fo narration. Il marque autant qu'il peut ce que Ton trouve à^s veôt-ges du Paradis Terreftre, dans les Ecrivains profanes, & à ce fujet il rapporte un endroit ou Livre que M.
