Show 898 MR. F. E. BEDDARD ON THE [Dec. 4, the xth and xith segments, which are quite distinct, at least in the case of the former pair, from the sperm-reservoirs. In the xiith segment there are a pair of sperm-sacs, but they are quite small and compact bodies. In the xinth segment there are a pair of still smaller egg-sacs. It may be thought perhaps that I have made an error of a segment, and that the two pairs of small sacs are both egg-sacs and lie, as the two pairs of these sacs sometimes do, in segments xiii., xiv. I believe, however, that this is not the case. Anterior end of Amyntas polytheca. X 5. The spermiducal glands are extensive, reaching from segments xvi,.-xx ; they are much lobulated. Tbe duct runs forward as a narrow tube into the xvnth segmented then runs back, widening out to the xviiith segment, where it opens directly on to the exterior and not through tbe intermediary of a terminal sac |
