Show 4297 Loper- D 2318 A We went from Bluff to Moab. Q By what means? A I went horseback; the rest of the boys went with the wagon. In Moab we made two more kilns of brick. Q Now, while you were over there in the San Juan river, did you see any other boats other than this one you have mentioned? A Yes sir, there was a fleet of two boats, two row boats sixteen feet long, left Bluff loaded with provisions, and I think there was five men with the two boats; I was one of them; we went down to about half- way down Honaker trail, to Johns canyon, I know; I remember that very distinctly. Q You were one of the men? A I was one of the men. Q What month was that? A I can't say, but I know the river was awful low, awful low, and it must have been in July or August. Q Did you have any difficulty in making that trip? A We had lots of difficulty, because down to the Chinle creek it was just a case of walk, that was all. Q And from Chinle creek on down, what? A We got good stretches there, we could ride a little ways, but with two men in one boat, with a lot of provisions, and three men in the other boat, we didn't have enough water to do very much boating. |
