Q After you got your supplies down there into the trail, or down into the canyon, did you start to work? A Yes sir. We would hunt up a spot that panned pretty well, we would sluice it or rock it. Q Did you have a long sluice? A No, we made a tank about ten feet long, about three feet wide, a foot deep; then we would make a hand rocker and we had a copper plate; we tried that a while; we tried pretty near every scheme we could figure out to save this gold; we got a little gold, but not much. Q How long did you remain in there that year? A All of 1894, and up until, I would say, the 1st of May, 1895. Q Until May, 1895? A Yes sir. Q During the time you were in there was your party supplied, from time to time? A Yes; I think our outfit brought in two batches of grub by wagon, and then we ceased operations, and Mr. Goodman and the two boys and me worked a while, and that was a failure, so Mr. Goodman went to Bluff -- Mr. Goodman was a photographer, and he done the cooking for our outfit; then the two boys and I made |
