Show 4191 McDonald- D 2211 Q What was the condition of the water around the dredge as to whether or not it was swift or slow water? A It was medium slow water there; wouldn't have been any use to hunt up settling basin if it hadn't been. The swift water carries the light gold down, when it comes to a broad place it sinks; that's the reason we were working in that stretch of the river. Q During the time you were operating this dredge, did you see any travel on the river up and down in boats? A No, only from the bar back and forward. Q While you were there, what post office did you use A Used Hites. Most of the time Mr. Stanton's mail came in from the teams from Hanksville; that was brought in from Hanksville. Q Where was Hite with reference to the dredge? A Down the river. Q About how many miles? A It might have been as far as four miles, -- I doubt it, though. It wasn't a great ways. Q Did you occasionally go to and from Hite? A Yes. Q How did you go? A Walked dow. Q Did you ever go down in a boat? A No, I never went to Hites in a boat. |
