BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Piute Farms and Piute creek are not the same place? A No; Piute creek is twenty- one miles from the junction of the Colorado. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q How did that place down there get its name, Piute Farms. A That is the Piute reservation down there; the Piutes used to be -- that is where old Posey and that bunch used to hold out; I used to know several of them, one they called Mike Indian, another Jim, and Old George; a bunch of them lived down there; they had little farms, raised a little corn along the bank of the river. Q Mr. Loper, when was the next time that you saw the San Juan river? A In July, 1923. Q By the way, before we pass to that, how did you go out? A That time? Q Yes. |
