Show 4287 Loper- D 2308 A In the spring, early in the spring of 1894; I think it was about March, 1st of March, along there. Q And to what point did you go? A We freighted our stuff in to what is now known as Honaker trail; there was no trail there at that time, and Mr. Honaker and some associates had located a claim at what is now known as the foot of Honaker trail. I was employed in that company. And early in the spring of 1894 we freighted our stuff to the rim of the canyon, and there was two or three of us young fellows at that time carried the stuff down from ledge to ledge until we got to the last big ledge, was about one hundred and thirty or one hundred and forty feet, we had to let the stuff over with ropes, and then when we got our stuff let over the cliff we would go out to the point where the trail now goes over and climb down a rope ladder, and then came back to the ledge and went down to the river. Q What point did you enter Utah? A I entered Utah -- I came by way of Navajo springs,-- the south side of Ute mountain and around to what was called the old Hyde trading post, where we carried on this experimental work in this placer process. Then in the fall of 1893 -- Q I am referring to 1894 now. |
