A Went down the San Juan, to the junction of the San Juan and Colorado; then I left the party, about ten miles below the junction of the San Juan and Colorado. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q On the Colorado? A On the Colorado, yes. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q In the course of that survey was your time spent down in the canyon, or was it spent on the high lines? A The time was spent entirely in the canyon; we had to carry up to 3900 elevation, and we had to go necessarily whever that 39 hit the country. Q So from time to time you were out of the canyon? A Very seldom out of the canyon; at no point, I would say, were we more than three miles from the canyon; that is, what might be classed as the canyon. Q At what point on the river did you make your camp? A Wherever possible, camped every night, usually a new camp every night, except where we had large areas to cover.
