Show 4282 Daily- D 2303 go on. Q After you got beyond the cataracts do you recall passing a place called Hite, Utah? A Yes sir. Q Just tell me about that, what you saw there. A As I remember Hite, it was an abandoned mining town. The sandbars are very numerous around there; the water is very shallow; we had a good deal of trouble with sandbars. Q Did you encounter any sandbars between Hite, Utah, and Lees Ferry, that you recall? A Just below Hite the sandbars are very numerous, yes sir; before you get into Lees Ferry we didn't have any sandbars. Q Did you run into any more riffles or rapids through there? A Oh, yes, below Cataract canyon -- you mean just after we left Hite? Q Yes, between there and Lees Ferry. A That is rather vague in my mind; I am not sure of that. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What were you, Mr. Daily, -- a boatman for this party? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q In that stretch of the canyon from the end of the cataracts down to Lees Ferry did you meet any other people on the river? A No sir. |
