Show 1899.] ANTIPATHARIAN CORALS OF MADEIRA. 823 scattered microscopic hairs, which are seated on thick bases and taper to a fine point. They sometimes fork near the tip (fig. III. B). A single specimen has been in my possession for many years. It is without a base, and may possibly be only a branch of the entire corallum. It has a length of about 205 millim. (8 inches) and measures 180 millim. (7 in.) through. Should other specimens occur, a careful examination of them might lead to the conclusion that this form is entitled to rank as a species. Hab.
