Show NORA B. STEPHENS Elected 1992 born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and lived there the first 4 her life with her father, Lee E. Thurgood, and Mae Barton Thurgood, mother. She was the second in seven children, and dad was the operator of a dairy farm. Both parents were involved in church Nora was years and of community. A pattern set for the whole family. High School at Davis High, and Utah State University later. She played violin in the symphony, was on the debate squad and active in student government. A Student Body Vice President. Received her BA in Elementary Education, with minors in music, language arts, and library science. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and had membership in Phi Kappa Phi, and was awarded the Faculty Women's outstanding Woman award. Fifteen years and five children later, she went back to receive her Master of Science Degree in Special Education, and is certified as an Elementary Teacher, Teacher Librarian, and Teacher of the mentally Handicapped. Stephens is married to Allen I. Stephens and they are parents of seven children, and eighteen grandchildren. Allen taught high school or ten years, and at Weber State College for ten years and then they purchased a Casualty Insurance Agency and went into business for themselves. They have recently fulfilled a dream and purchased a 180 acre ranch in Montpelier, Idaho where they hope to build a summer home. Rep. and Allen spent much time working for their church, and raising their family. Nora served in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary presidencies, and Ward Organist. She is presently the Ward Relief Society President. Nora major career was homemaking, but she has been active in school volunteer work, in voting district leadership, and a volunteer counselor for the physically disadvantaged. Her hobby is collecting poetry, and she gives Poetry Workshops in her local schools .and womens groups. She loves music and sang for many years in a ladies quartet in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. And she was a member of Rocky Mountain Symphony for 15 years. Currently she plays violin with the New American Symphony,a community group, sponsored by Weber State University. She recently served on the Action Planning Team for the Her Governor's Hobbies Strategic Education Planning Commission. include quilting, crocheting, sewing and reading. Stephen looks forward to the challenging opportunity of serving the citizens of her voting district as well as the great Rep. 227 |
