Show OLENE SMITH Elected 1980 WALKER to 1988 alene Smith Walker was born in Ogden, Utah on November 15, 1930 to Thomas ale Smith and Nina H. Smith. Her father was a teacher, principal and superintendent of Ogden City schools, and a stake president in the LDS church. Her mother was a teacher also. In addition they owned a 140 acre farm. Her father said the farm was his "golf game", and Olene and her 3 brothers and one sister had to learn to play by thinning beets, planting tomatoes, potatoes and milking cows. She graduated from Weber High School, went on to Weber College and where she participated in debate, was president of several clubs, served in the senate, was in White Key and elected as first vice-president of the student body in 1952-53. BYU alene was first attendant to the Homecoming Queen at BYU, and met her husband while riding on a float. Myron Walker was giving directions as a member of the Blue Key, and Student Body Business Manager. alene majored in and science, minored in history, political obtained a teaching certificate. She debated between going to law school and teaching at the University level. Teaching won and she accepted a scholarship to Stanford University to get her Masters degree in Political Theory.
