At the urging of a few friends, Olene decided to run for the Legislature. She lacked only two votes of getting 70% at the convention, but she won both her primary and the general, and went on to serve 4 terms in a primarily Democratic area. She serves as Co--Chair of the Community and Economic Development appropriations Committee, Rep. Assistant Majority Whip and Majority Whip. She also served on the Rules committee, Public Education Heal th Services and Social Appropriations, appropriations, and Judicial and Local State Higher Government, Taxation, Education. During her eight years in the legislature, she sponsored over 100 bills, and passsed over 60 of them. She was most proud of was here passing a were that bill creating "The Rainy Day Fund". Lake the Salt Olene becme the first director of Education Foundation. This was established to bring dollars and in school from the private sector into the public kind services classroom in improve the quality of education for the students. She has served on many boards and committees.
