Show AFTON Elected BRADSHAW 1985 to-- Afton Bradford Bradshaw wa the seventh of nine children born to John Ross and Lenore Maxwell Bradford in Sal t Lake Ci ty, Utah. was an athletic child. Afton She won the local hopscotch and was Salt Lake the tournament, champion in City "jacks" two in a row. tournament She also in years participated synchronized swimming, tennis amd sking during her college years. was the first of the Bradford children to graduate from college,and she liked it so well, she has continued to take classes at the university throughout her life. When her youngest child graduated from college, she decided to get back to serious study Afton With a son in Law school, she attended Graduate school, herself. and received her Master's degree in American Colonial History the son same day her graduated from Law School. Bradshaw felt she had already graduated from the school of hard knocks. During the Depression, hr father lost his business, and the family lost their home. Her father died at age 47 leaving her mother with seven children at home. She was ill equiped to a earn living. She had left school in the 9th grade to help at horne, but her forefathers had walked across the plains, and she knew how to work. Every Afton married Howard Chipman Bradshaw in 1949. They children. She served as Chair of the Advisory Board for the Graduate school of Social Work, and was a charter member and secretary of the Crimson Club, and on the Advisory Board for the University's Humanities Center.
