Show Afton's honors include membership in Phi Kappa Phi, magna cum laude graduate, selection as Panhellenic Woman of the Year for 1977; Vice President of the University of Utah Alumni Assoc. and winner of two scholarships for the University of Utah and International Summer Utah Holiday School at Cambridge University in England in 1983. Magazine included Afton ·as one of nine legislators most would like to see cloned. The family are tennis buffs. While her daughter was achieving a national ranking in girls tennis and the boys were leading out on the East High School teams, Afton even chose tennis as the topic of her writing for her Master's degree. She wrote about the early history of tennis in Utah, and found that the pioneers did more than kill crickets and dig in the salty soil. tennis clubs in the Salt Lake Valley. She serves on the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Committee, has chaired a State Government Issues Committee. She was appointed to a Task Force on Travel and Tourism, in 1990, sponsored by American Express. Nationally, Arts, Legislation sponsored by Rep. Bradshaw includes bills dealing with criminal justice; consumer protection; women's issues, Charitable Solicitations, the Anti-Pregnancy Discrimination Bill, Child Care bills, Truth in Advertising and the Endowment for History, and Ridesharing amendments. 200 |
