Show Shortly after the November election, Leonard entered the hospital where his hoarseness and fatique were diagnosed as terminal cancer. At his request, he returned home to Holladay to be cared for by his wife and daughter until his death on April, 1931. The members of the Party in the lelgislature, being aware of these tragic circumstances, assigned her the chair of the Engrossing Committee, which task could be completed without a large number of committee meetings. Matilda always felt that she had not fulfilled the duties for which she had been el ected. She recogni zed the challenge and the needs and, had other circumstances prevailed, would have actively responded to the mandate voted her. she was asked to be the Chorister to the Primary General by the president, Louis B. Felt. She served from 1912 to 1939. During this time, her talents in poetry were combined with the musical gifts of Mildred B. Pettit and, together, they composed songs for the primary children.
