Bierstadt to Warhol:American Indians in the West Opening Celebration I Friday, February 15 University and UMFA Members exhibition preview I 5 pm Public artist talk by Shonto Begay I 6 pm Community celebration I 7 pm This celebration marks the opening of the exhibition, Bierstadt to Warhol: American Indians in the West. Sh onto Begay of the Navajo (Dine) Nation, whose work appears in the exhibition, will speak about his work during this UMFA artist talk. Begay will discuss his artistic choices and handling of non-mythologized everyday life, as well as the thought-provoking themes in his work. Third Saturday for Families:Torn-paper Landscapes Saturday, February 16 I 1-4 pm Explore the Dale Nichols: Transcending Regionalism exhibition and contemplate the sweeping landscapes and lonely farms in Dale Nichols' work.Then try your hand at your own landscape using torn paper and colored pencils. salt 7: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye Opening Thursday, February 21 I Exhibition Preview, 6 pm I Artist Talk, 7 pm Preview salt 7: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye in the salt gallery, then join the artist for a talk in the Katherine W. and Ezekiel R. Dumke Jr: Auditorium. MARCH Palette to Palate: Art and Wine Tuesday, March 6 I 7-9 pm I UMFA Member discount is available Co-presented by UMFA and University of Utah Continuing Education. Third Saturday for Families: Portraits Saturday, March 16 I 1-4 pm The Museum is filled with all kinds of people and characters this spring. Be inspired by the amazing portraits in our galleries to create a portrait of yourself or someone you love. Evening for Educators: Portraits Wednesday, March 20 I 5:30 pm The UMFA's galleries are bursting with portraits! During this free workshop for teachers and others with interest, participants will discover self-portraits, portrait paintings, and portrait photography currently on display in the Museum and in the UMFA's collection.
