Gerald Elias Devil's Trill The Utah Museum of Fine Art Book Club hosts mystery author Gerald Elias. Elias will discuss his book Devil's Trill Date: Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 Time: 7: 00 pm Location: Auditorium, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, University of Utah 410 Campus Center Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84112 Daniel Jacobus lives in self-imposed exile in rural New England. He spends his time chain smoking and berating students in the hope that they will flee. Jacobus, however, is drawn back into the world he left behind when he decides to attend the Grimsley Competition at Carnegie Hall. The winner of this competition is granted the honor of playing the 'Piccolino Stradivarius,' a uniquely dazzling violin that has brought misfortune to all who possessed it over the centuries. Nine-year-old Kamryn Vander wins the competition, but before she can get an opportunity to play the priceless violin, it is stolen. Jacobus becomes the primary suspect and with the help of his friend and former musical partner Nathaniel Williams, and his new student, Yumi Shinagawa, sets out to prove his innocence. A graduate of Yale, Gerald Elias has been a Boston Symphony violinist, Associate Concertmaster of the Utah Symphony, adjunct professor of music at the University of Utah, first violinist of the Abramyan String Quartet, and Music Director of the Vivaldi Candlelight concert series. He is also the author of Devil's Trill, selected by Barnes and Noble for their 2009 Discover Great New Writers catalog, and Danse Macabre, hailed as one of the top five mysteries in 2010 by Library Journal. Book Club at the Museum is an exciting program that unites art with literature. The program is for existing book clubs. After they read a featured book, they take a docent guided tour of the Museum which connects themes in the book to works in the UMFA's collection. An online Discussion Guide is also offered for each featured book to help facilitate conversation at the book club meetings which then enhance the Book Club tour at the Museum.
