Purchased with funds from the Val A Browning Old Masters Fund in honor of Professor Sheila Muller's service to the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah on the occasion of her retirement in June, 2012. This past November, the Museum acquired an engraving by artist Pieter Breughel the Elder to commemorate the retirement of beloved University of Utah art history professor Dr. Sheila D. Muller. The artwork is entitled Temperance and will accompany another work, Charity, from the UMFA's collection, both of which are part of Pieter Breughel the Eider's larger series The Seven Virtues. The acquisition reflects Dr. Muller's area of expertise, Northern European Renaissance and Baroque art The UMFA is pleased to honor the professor's legacy with such a wonderful engraving to be viewed by scholars and the general public.
