In his work, Daniel Everett explores the pursuit of meaning through various mediums, including photography, video, performance, and installation. Much of his art focuses on liminal spaces, points of transition, and personal meaning that can be found in public areas. Symbolizing such dichotomous concepts as masculinity and femininity, speed and leisure, and the individual and the collective, the automobile lends itself to many different interpretations. This group of photographs from the UMFA's collection delineates the diversity of ways in which artists have depicted and interpreted the omnipresent automobile.
