If you haven't yet ventured to the UMFA to see Speed:The Art of the Performance Automobile, I encourage you to make the trip. These "rolling sculptures" are amazing objects with fascinating histories, and they will be on view in our galleries until September 16. When viewed in the setting of an art museum, we see the cars in Speed in an entirely new light It is interesting to note that the Museum of Modern Art in New York City first exhibited automobiles in 1951 in an exhibition entitled Eight Automobiles. In recent years, the Portland Art Museum, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Louvre in Paris have showcased automobiles in popular exhibitions. We are thrilled to have these remarkable objects in our galleries for our many visitors to see. We are presenting a wonderful array of public programming to complement the Speed exhibition. Join us for a free lecture and a fabulous film screening, or register to attend the special "Hoods Up" event featuring the exhibition's guest curator in conversation with Jay Leno, America's best-known car enthusiast and host of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As always, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts will continue to strive to be a source of delight and inspiration for our community.Thank you for your ongoing support of the UMFA. I hope to see you in the galleries soon. Joseph J. Palmer Rashelle Perry Chris Redgrave Robert H . Rose Ann B. Scott Joanne F. Shiebler Diane Stewart Naoma Tate Elizabeth F.
