Show GYMNASTICS Agility is contention The Utah gymnastics team has for the past few years been a constant contender for the WAC crown, certainly due, in part, to the fine coaching of Larry Anderson and Mike Kim-ball. Stiff competition provided the Redskin team with needed experience during the early part of the season as they traveled to California and met Berkeley and Sacramento State. They lost to both. The Utes returned home and managed a mild upset over defending WAC champion Colorado State, 153.00 to 152.05. Utah won the first few events and was able to hold off a last minute rally by CSU. Sergio Luna finished first in the all-around with 51.25 points and freshman Roger Haldeman finished second with 49.05 points. After losing to BYU and New Mexico, Utah rolled over both Arizona State and Arizona. In the Arizona meet the Utes swept five of six team events, winning all but the parallel bars. At the WAC Championship held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dennis Jones placed second in the side horse; Sergio Luna placed second in the parallel bars; and Roger Haldeman placed fifth in the all-around competition. 3Ba SCORES NON-CONFERENCE: UTAH OPP.
