Show Young team downed by Cal and BYU In his nine years as head tennis coach at Utah, Harry James has built one of the top net powers in the country, and 1969's 16-4-1 team was one of the best. The Utes, led by freshman F.D. Robbins at the number one singles position, scored victories in their first eight dual matches, including three wins in the Long Beach State Invitational. But then the young Ute team fell to an experienced Brigham Young University squad, 5-4. Utah went on to meet the number one and number two teams in the nation, Southern California and UCLA, and came away with a lot of experience and two losses, one a narrow 5-4 defeat to USC. The Redskins' slight weakness in the doubles competition made them twice prey for BYU. But Utah's singles lineup was one of the strongest with Robbins, Dan Bleckinger at the number two spot, Dave Harmon at number three, Harold Sears at number four, Dale Fritz at number five and Laury Hammell at number six. i- SCORES NON-CONFERENCE: UTAH OPP.
