Show FOUNDER'S DAY Alumni recognize service, dedication Four distinguished Alumnus honors were awarded at the annual Founder's Day banquet, Friday night, February 27, 1970. For special service to the nation, the University or their professions, the Alumni Association bestowed its highest honors on Mary E. Caffey, vice principal of East High School, John G. Hall, president of Anaconda Company, Gerald G. Probst, vice president and general manager of UNIVAC Data Processing Division and John M. Wallace, banker-financier of Walker Bank and Trust. The annual Honorary Alumnus award was given to Harold 0. Molitor, president of Continental Agency, for significant service to the University. In addition, a special Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented posthumously to David 0. McKay, late president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Guest speaker at the banquet celebrating the 120th anniversary of Founder's Day was Hays Gorey, national political correspondent for Time magazine. Mr. Gorey is a Nie-man Fellow in journalism of Harvard University and a graduate of the University of Utah, where he was editor of the Daily Utah Chronicle. He spoke of the "appalling unconcern" for the erosion of the Press' freedom. "If the press ever becomes pliant and conformist, which freedom will be the next to be eroded?" Mary E. Caffey JohnG.
