Show o o o en < en 386 New degrees added - Rapid growth despite lack of funds Sterling McMurrin-Dean Of Utah institutions for higher education during the last three years, 75% of all doctor's degrees and 40% of all master's degrees were conferred by the University of Utah. During the school year of 1968-1969, the university bestowed over 1000 graduate degrees. These included 344 doctoral degrees (a 24% increase over the previous year) and 669 master's degrees which is an increase of 17%. Over the last two years, the Graduate School added for new degrees which are: Master's of Philosophy, of Education, of Engineering, and a Doctor of Social Work. The University also instituted several new graduate degree majors: Ph.D- Chemical Physics, MA. and Ph.D- Comparative Literature, MS. MA. MEd.-Cultural Foundations, MEd. Educational Media, EDDS-Educational Specialist, MEd.-Elementary Certification, MA. Linguistics, Ph.D-Materials Science and Engineering, MEd.-Secondary Certification, MA. and MS.-Audiology, MA. and MS.-Speech Pathology, Ph.D Middle East Studies (Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Persian). Dean Sterling McMurrin, head of the Graduate School, feels that it has done remarkably well in developing scientific resources despite lack of funds. Government support has helped considerably. |
