Show Ted E. Davis-Vice President of Financial Affairs Four special domains handlethe nitty-gritty Paul Hodson, Vice-president for Special Projects, is a miracle worker of the medium scale. Every morning when he comes to work, there is a mole hill on his desk; by afternoon he has to have made a mountain out of it. The function of Hodson's office is to take ideas or orders for projects and translate them into functioning programs. Nothing complex. It is indicative of the imaginative approach to administrational difficulties found in all these specialized departments. Estimate how important research is to a university, add the emphasis on research grants at the "U", then appreciate the juggernaut Dr. William S. Partridge pilots as Vice-president for Research. His department coordinates and supervises all University research and the funds supporting it. In additon, it helps researchers find financial support, obtain patents and regulates government research contract work on the campus. The task of protecting medical programs from duplication in the several medical-oriented colleges and insuring the general high quality of all these programs is a good human analogue of the old "no sparrow shall fall" principle, and Dr. K.B. Castleton is a very busy man. Dr. Castleton feels that most student complaint at the "U" is justified, and believes it is a principle of effective administration to listen to all concerned students. Be where the buck stops. And starts. Vice-president for Financial Affairs Ted Davis is. Economic planner for a multi-million dollar corporate structure, Davis is aware of the obligations inherent in his job and in his position as a University official in the community. "A university is a place where knowledge is developed, through research; taught, so the student will learn to do something; and used to the benefit of the community." 306 |
