Show 7f SPURS Their goal is involvement Spurs are fifty sophomore women who wear bright royal blue skirts and sweaters and who can be found wherever services are needed in the University and the community. Spurs may be found playing with the young patients at Primary Children's Hospital, tutoring or aiding in projects for Boy's Ranch and Head Start. They help with the burden of course evaluation, give outsiders friendly tours of the library or medical center, and serve as ushers at every event from operas to Dr. Faustus. Their goal is involvement, and involved they are, in just about everything that needs attention. The energetic young ladies are interviewed and selected by Spur's Executive Board in the spring of their freshman year. They must have a good record of service and activities, plus an attitude of interest and enthusiasm. The past year Spurs sold Singing Valentines to raise money for Boy's Ranch and children in hospitals; they also sold mums at Homecoming as a service project. Spurs is a national honorary service organization, with chapters on nearly every college campus. 268 |
