Show The primary function of a University is to concentrate and disseminate information. Academic organization of any institution of learning is crucial in functional realization of educational goals. On a large campus with varied colleges and huge student body, the traditional College division of disciplines takes on vastly greater significance. At the University of Utah the collegiate substructure is rapidly evolving to the point of functional autonomy. It would be virtually impossible for any administrator to manage and direct the affairs of so many distinct organizations, and must, consequently, delegate his authority to responsible supervisors from within the discipline. As the prestige of each of our colleges grows nationally and they expand, more and more independence in the conduct of interior affairs devolves upon each college; consequently, the student presently enrolled in the University is experiencing a changeover of loyalties. Apathy in regards to activities concerning the entire student body joins hands with more involvement in departmental affairs to widen gaps between colleges, causing the entire picture of academia to alter. Living in a time of change is always exciting, and this era offers concerned students unique opportunity to be involved in institutional change. C/) LJ CD O O A changeover of loyalties 321 |
