Show CONCERT SYMPHONY Strings bow to minor instruments Equality carries into musical performances these days. Symphony music in times past has been dominated by the string sections which have the largest parts. The "U's" Concert Symphony has strived to feature other groups-brass, percussion and wood-winds--in their performances. Individual students, too, have been featured in performance. At the Founder's Day concert held February 18, soloists Joel Rosenberg on viola. Richard Kay playing the violin, and Bonnie Powelson and Susan Hunter, both on piano were the concert's highlighting attractions. "Music is for the development and enjoyment of the senses," says symphony director David Shand. He and the Concert Symphony have shared their enjoyment with audiences on campus and on tour to high schools and junior colleges in Reno, Nevada, Oakland and San Francisco, California. Said Shand, "We'll play whenever we can impose music upon someone." |
