The two specimens in Mr. Green's collection have much darker wings than the type which is in the British Museum, but they agree very well with Mr. Smith's description. Kohl unites Sphex tyrannica, Smith, with this species. I have examined the types of both, and they seem to me quite distinct species, markedly in the shape and form of the clypeus, petiole, and abdomen, and in the colour of the wings and legs, as shown in Plate XV. figs. 1 and 3. 235.
