HOLLAND ON THE AFRICAN [Jan. 14, " I have come to the conclusion that Pyrgus diomus, Hopff., really distinct from P. ferox, Wallgr., although Wallengren himself in 1872 sank the latter in favour of the former. None of the South-African specimens that I have seen agrees with Hopffer's description and figures in the important point of the white bands on the underside of the hind wings, which markings are always much more oblique in the southern examples. The other day I received a pair from Zanzibar, which exactly agree with Hopffer's figures. So I think we may call the abundant southern form P. ferox.
