UNIVERSITY OF UTAH Capstone Coursef Portfolio Review/Student Research OCTH 6960 - Occupational Therapy Graduate Project This course Serves as a c a p s t o n e for Ihe Master of Occupational Therapy Degree (MOT). The course brings together the whole educational experience by giving the students an opportunity lo complete their research and prc-som it during a Research Symposium-held the first Saturday in November. The students also put together a presentation portfolio. This is a portfolio thai showcases ihe opportunities and developmental teaming thai has occurred for each student throughout their professional program. It is also a course thai focuses on continuing 10 h e a life-long learner a s a professional. The Course description is a s follows; Course Description This course focuses oo the student's portfolio as well as a master's project consisting of a written paper that includes a synthesis of literature pertinent to Ihe question {or project), conclusions, and suggestions far future research. The primary goals for (his course are to combine the student's acquired experience into an integrated whole and to develop skills for lifelong learning, this synthesis will allow students to continue their professional education throughout their careers. See Course Syllabus following this page. Research Students are expected to complete an independent research project. They are enrolled in DC TH SfJOC'i'GOOD during 1he spnnc scmeslcr of the first year o'- the crcgrarn This course provides Ihe learning necessary to be an informed consumer of research articles. It also starts the students with the process of their own research. During the second year of the program, the students are involved in seminar classes that guide them in the research process. They also form a graduate project committee consisting of two faculty from the Division of Occupational Therapy and cine outside member. Those throe guide the research process as well. Often the students are able to work on projects that are also the interest of faculty. In Ihe o c TH 6990 Graduate Project Course- the students then finish theii research project, write it up as a oublishable article and present it to their committee as well a s to a general audience during the Research Symposium. The articles are bound in a monograph that is retained in Ihe Division Library Students are also encouraged to submit their article for publication.
