The capstone course in Art History The goals of the Fall Semester ARTH 4950, Senior Seminar in Art History, are four-fold. • opportunity to bring together link together aspects of the art history coursework • forum for discussing the methodological perspectives in the discipline • preparation to write the senior paper in the final semester before graduation • forum for discussion of graduate/advanced study in art history The web site address for the syllabus is http://www.art.utah.edu/sylFall/arth syl/BorethL 4950 6800 1 05f.htm While the class group considers the purpose and general outline for selecting a topic for the senior paper, individual students contact the appropriate expert among the art history faculty to survey a more narrow range of topics. Discussions in the senior seminar start broadly with general methodological principles and then become more focused as the student finalizes the specific topic on which they will research and write. Bibliographies, outlines, and abstracts of the senior paper are drafted and revised during the senior seminar, so that research strategies are well in hand by the beginning of the Spring Semester during which the senior paper is written. Students are encouraged to submit the abstracts either to the Art History Spring Symposium or to the University's Undergraduate Research Symposium. http://www.obia.utah.edu/2006Accred/soa/capstone_courses/art_cap.htm (2 of 2)10/13/2006 12:11:20 PM |
