Ac. 1862, p. 295 (nee Licht.). Hab. Pacific coast of North America up to Behring's Straits, and, on the Asiatic side, Kamtschatka, and as far south as Hakodadi, Japan, whence 1 have seen a specimen obtained by Capt. Blakiston. This apparent link between the large Gulls with white primaries and those with barred primaries may be roughly described as a Herring-Gull with the black portion of the primary-pattern nearly washed out. It is quite unmistakable. The changes of plumage in its progress to maturity show, however, that its relationship to L. glaucus is closer than to L. argentatus. 7. LARUS ARGENTATUS, Gm.
