Show United States Department of the Interior OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY WASHINGTON, D.C. 20240 FEE f 1979 Ms. Dorothy Harvey, Co-Chairman Citizens for a Responsible Central Utah Project 1445 North 10th Street Manitowoc, Wisconsin 54220 Dear Ms. Harvey: We are responding to the issues paper and cost questionnaire the Citizens for a Responsible Central Utah Project transmitted to our Department on August 28 and November 2, 1978. We are also in receipt of your inquiry regarding these transmittals dated December 29, 1978* and your letter to me, dated December 10,1978. We understand the Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation sent you the cost information available on January 5, 1979. This information provides the basis for answering many of the questions on costs of the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project. As members of my staff explained to you by telephone on January 23, 1979, we feel some of the questions are not germane to the issues in which you are interested. Upon conferring with the Commissioner of Reclamation and the Bureau's Regional Director in Salt Lake City, Nelson W. Plummer, we have learned that efforts to have your group meet with the Regional Director and his staff have not been successful. I would like to encourage your group to meet with the Bureau of Reclamation in Salt Lake City; I view that such a meeting would be useful in addressing your inquiries on costs of the Bonneville Unit of the Central Utah Project. Such a meeting could clarify the Bureau procedures on cost calculations, identify those questions which can readily be answered with the cost data, discuss the questions which we consider not germane and begin a dialogue to encourage continued citizen input. Citizen opinions continue to contribute a valuable input to the Department's decisionmaking process. We would like to assure you that your input will be fully evaluated within the bounds of Federal laws and policy concerning water resource utilization. Sincerely, Assistant Secretary v ^ I Land and Water Resources UbdU^ ^ ^ A ^ S W ^ ^ v^w*->. |
