UTAH 34147 IN REPLY ..«#..„«•« REFER ro: UC-150 April 4, 1979 565./780.- Dear Concerned Citizen: As a follow-up to the public meetings held February 6, 7, and 8, 1979 on the interagency team's proposal for acquisition of lands for mitigation of wildlife due to the construction of the Strawberry Aqueduct and Collector System, this letter is to inform you of the results and our proposed action. The purposes of these meetings were: 1. To inform you of the impacts on wildlife caused by the construction of the Strawberry Aqueduct and Collector System. 2. To inform you of the various State and Federal agencies1 policies and regulations regarding their respective responsibilities for providing an analysis, plan, and procedures for implementing a mitigation plan to lessen the damage to affected wildlife species. 3. To explain to you how the interagency team-consisting of the U. S. Forest Service, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and the Bureau of Reclamation- cooperatively developed a plan and alternatives for mitigating the wildlife losses created by the construction of the Strawberry Collector System. 4. To receive from you, the public, your reaction to the reasons for mitigation, the plan, and any support or criticism of the objectives or biological analysis to support such a plan or the alternatives. Considerable effort was made through the use of letters, newspaper articles, television, and radio to inform all segments of the public about the meetings which were held in Duchesne, Orem, and Salt Lake City. Direct contact was made with approximately 225 entities. Private landowners, environmental groups, public officials, and business interests were specifically invited to attend and participate at the public meetings. \KSr<J£ |
