Show however, only partial recommendations were included for mitigation of those impacts (as described in the USDI, Fish and Wildlife Service's, 1965 Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act Report for the Bonneville Unit, Central Utah Project). Subsequently, a more detailed analysis was made of Collection System impacts on terrestrial wildlife population and their habitats. This analysis was included as a portion of the report entitled, "Section 8 Field Team Recommendation for Wildlife Mitigation in the Strawberry Collection System, Partial Bonneville Unit, Central Utah Project," submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in October 1978. The analysis determined that approximately 14,000 acres of wildlife habitat would be perj^neiitly^JLost (Table 1). Loss of this habitat would have direct impacts on both game and nongame species. Losses of key wildlife species were evaluated in terms of reduction in hunter days and harvest (Table 2), The total number of animals affected would be 2 to 6 fold greater than those harvest figures, depending on the species under consideration. The primary objective of the mitigation plan, as presented herein is to: Provide "in kind" compensation to the extent practical for habitat types lost. This will be done by providing optimum management, and thus maximum wildlife production, on lands with similar habitats within the general area of the adverse impacts. B. Description of the Mitigation Plan The proposed plan consists of acquiring eight separate parcels of private land (totaling about 14,315 acres) to be managed specifically |
