Show Baldwin- D 1156 Q How many different boats have you operated on the Colorado river? A Well, about three small boats, and one large boat. Q What type were the three small boats, what size boats, and what power did they have, if any? A Had one boat twenty- seven feet long, powered with a six-cylinder automobile engine, fifteen- fifteen propellor. Q How wide was that boat? A It was about five feet wide. Q And what was the draft? A Oh, about ten inches, I imagine, ordinary load. Q What is that boat designated, by some name we could refer to it later? A We always just called it our passenger boat, for light work; no particular name. Q Was that boat equipped with seats? A Seats that set in, that we could take out and put back. Q Now, describe the other two. A The other one was powered with a Ford motor. Q What was the length, width and draft of that boat? A I don't know the exact length; I think it was about twenty foot long, and probably four foot wide; probably draw six or eight inches of water, the boat itself. With the pro-pellor it would be a little deeper. Q How much deeper with a propellor? A Used fourteen- inch propellor with a guard underneath, say 3128 |
