Show P. Galloway- C 1143 MR. BLACKMAR: You mean Green River, Wyoming? MR. FARNSWORTH: Greenriver, Utah. A No; we have more sandbars down further. Q But you don't have any such conditions as you have in a lot of these extremely rapid stretches higher up, do you, or such conditions as you have, for instance, in Westwater canyon on the Colorado, when you get down to Greenriver, Utah? A From there through Labrite(?) to Greenriver we haven't got the dangers of the rough water, no. Q When you are traveling with a row boat, and especially if you are going upstream on any stream that you are familiar with, if is frequently very much easier to get out and tow the boat up than to row it in certain stretches, isn't it? A Yes. Q Characteristic of any stream that you know anything about, isn't it? A I have always avoided going upstream as much as possible. Q With row boat? A Yes. Q And that is because pulling against the current with your oars is pretty strenuous work, gets tiresome; isn't that true? A Yes. Q And I believe you stated coming up from the mouth of the Green up to Moab on your trips you would frequently get out, where you could, where there was a place to walk, pull your boat, pull it along there rather than attempt to row it? 3115 |
