Show Baldwin- D 1189 water in there to float it down to the river; six or eight hundred pounds of stuff in it; found out we couldn't get anywhere; we had to take it out and shove the boat on to the river, and carry the stuff to the river. Q Why didn't you deliver that boat to Mr. Hoyt by taking it down the Colorado river and then up the Green, instead of bringing it overland? A It is about one hundred and twenty miles from Greenriver, the town of Greenriver to the junction, sixty- five miles from Moab down the Colorado, I guess, going down stream the longest distance and up stream the shortest, probably. Q The reason you did it was because it could be done cheaper and quicker that way? A I think so. Q Have you ever been on the Green river, at all? A This last trip I mentioned we tried to go up the Green with this power boat. Q Which power boat did you have? A The twenty- seven foot boat with the automobile engine in it. Q The one you call the black boat? A The one we call our passenger boat. We started up the Green, and hadn't gone more than about a quarter of a mile, I would say, and we got stuck; the propellor and the guards struck the sand; consequently the boat soon turned around with us. 3161 |
