Show Baldwin- D 1190 We thought we would try it another place. We tried it four times, I think. Finally one of the boys got out with hip boots on, on boots that came up around his waist, and poled it up stream, let it dig its way through; got through that one; went on probably half a mile, or a mile and a half, the same thing over again, only worse. So it began to get towards, night, we discovered we had only gone about five miles in five hours. That is as far as we went. We turned around and came back. Did you come to the conclusion it would be impossible to get that boat up the Green river? MR. FARNSWORTH: We object to that question, calling for a conclusion of the witness with reference to a matter he doesn't pretend to have any know ledge about. He doesn't know anything about conditions a boys there. MR. BLACKMAR: I am asking his opinion. MR. FARNSWORTH: He is not competent to express an opinion THE SPECIAL MASTER: He has not been on the Green, I understand; has he, Mr. Blackmar? MR. BLACKMAR: That is correct. THE SPECIAL MASTER: I think you can ask him whether in consequence of his experience he stopped there. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q After you had all this trouble you stopped and turned back? 3162 |
