Show Baldwin- D 1157 sixteen inches. Q Now, the other boat, did that boat have a name? A We always called it the Black boat; we had it all painted black. The other boat was called the Evinrude boat, Evinrude out- board motor; that was about eighteen foot long, probably three and a half or four foot wide, it being a round bottom, probably draw ten inches of water. Q With the propellor how many inches? A Only nice- inch propellor on it, just let it stick below the boat the distance of the propellor, with a small guard, probably ten inches below the back end of the boat. Q Did that Evinrude -- was that motor hinged on so it could be raised? A It was hinged so you could set it at an angle with regard to the back of the boat, so you could have it straight up and down; if it would strike anything, it would break the propellor, break the pin off. Q It was rigid, then? A Yes. Q On the Black boat, did that have a gear- shift it? A We used the regular Ford transmission, just the high gear was the only gear we could use. Q And the passenger boat, did that have a gear shift on it? A Had a gear shift, but we never used any of the gears only the high and the reverse; didn't do much good, because it was too slow. 3129 |
