Show Galloway- C 1076 Yes, I have been down through the canyon, some of them, with him, yes. Which canyon? Red canyon. Where is that? It is way up near the Wyoming line; Lodore canyon, Split Mountain. I am talking about the trips on the lower stretches, that are in controversy in this case. No sir. Did he, when he was engaged in trapping, ever use motor boats? I think not; I don't remember of ever seeing him have a motor of any kind. The old trappers, so far as you know, didn't go in very strong for motor propelled boats? No; seemed to depend on the old style navigation more than anything else. And he navigated these rivers in the old style way? Yes sir. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: What was the old style way, canoes? Well, no, not his; his was a boat constructed that the thought the best kind of boat to navigate the river with. And it was for the purpose of his trapping he constructed what is termed the Galloway type boats? I think that is where he got the idea from. 3048 |
