Show Galloway- D 1049 A If I recollect, we were trying to get home for Christmas-- no, it was in the spring of the year -- the next year is when I had this experience I started to tell you about. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q You mean Shafer well No. 1? A I guess that is what they called it. And then we went from there on the big boat. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Before you get on to the big boat, how did you get that boat up the river to that point? Did you row it all the way? A We rowed in places where we could, where there was breaking water against a permanent bank; when we couldn't, we had to tow it; good many cases on a sandbar; the water was so shallow out so far that a boat wouldn't tow up it; it would drag on the bottom, and we would have to wade out maybe fifty or sixty feet in order to get enough line out to give the boat the current so it would go on up with a tow line. Q How did you get that boat by the slide? A What do you mean by the slide? Q I mean that place about two miles from the mouth of the Green river where the rock along the side of the canyon has fallen 3021 |
