There is places where the river has a permanent bank, a willow bank, we will say. A willow bank is usually a permanent bank. They sometimes cave off, but they are the only, what you call a permanent bank, that I know anything about on the river, unless it is ledges; you will have a bank of that kind, where you have little back eddies, and you can keep close to the bank and row up, but when you run out of that, then you have sandbars on both sides, and you have got to tow the boat there, because the water is shallow and swift.
