Forma et habitu P.funebri affinis, sed differt statura majore et alis extus immaculatis. Percnostola fortis. Two skins, those of an adult male and young male, of this species are in the collection, and have enabled us to make out the female of this species which was in Bartlett's last collection, and which we were previously unable to determine. The form is more nearly that of Percnostola funebris than any other bird of the group with which we are acquainted, but it is larger and stronger. The wings are short and rounded, the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth primaries being nearly equal, and forming the wing-end. The tarsi are not quite so strong as in typical Thamnophili, and are proportionally longer. |
