Nardo has a section of calcareous sponges ; but it must not be confounded with this group. It is founded to contain two corals, allied to Alcyonium and Gorgonia, having no alliance with sponges. Nardo gave the name of Grantia to a dendroid genus of fibrous sponges, of which Spongia canabrina of Esper is the type (see Isis, 1833, p. 522). |
